Retired Army Lt. Colonel Jim Miller Announces Run for Trussville City Council, Place 4
“Trussville gave us a place to plant roots after years of military service,” said Miller.

Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Jim Miller has officially announced his candidacy for Trussville City Council, Place 4, bringing with him decades of military leadership, fiscal experience, and a deep-rooted commitment to community service.
After a distinguished 26-year career in the U.S. Army, including multiple combat tours and overseas leadership assignments, Miller and his wife, Leah, a third-generation Trussville resident, chose to settle in Trussville following his retirement. Now, Miller says he’s ready to continue serving, this time, at home.
“Trussville gave us a place to plant roots after years of military service,” said Miller. “It’s not just where we live, it’s home. I want to give back by helping lead our city into the future with transparency, accountability, and a steady hand.”

During his military tenure, Miller led soldiers in high-pressure environments across the globe, including two and a half years in Iraq. His focus on safety, efficiency, and strategic resource management helped save lives and taxpayer dollars. He currently works for the Missile Defense Agency’s Contracting Directorate, where he helps oversee the procurement of multi-billion-dollar defense systems with a focus on value and performance.
“Fiscal responsibility isn’t just a talking point for me, it’s been my job for 17 years,” Miller said. “I know how to make every dollar count, and I’ll bring that same discipline to the Trussville City Council.”
In addition to his professional background, Miller remains active in the community. He teaches Sunday School at First Baptist Church Trussville, serves on the City Council Veterans Committee, and participates in local chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Miller said his campaign will focus on responsible growth, public safety, support for veterans, and protecting the quality of life that makes Trussville a standout community.
Election Day is scheduled for August 26, 2025. Miller is challenged by former Pelham City Councilwoman, Mildred Reed, who recently moved to Trussville.
