MOBILE, Ala. -- Downtown Mobile represents one of Alabama’s most important economic and cultural centers. Its historic character, working waterfront, and established business district provide a strong foundation for sustained growth. Recent progress has been notable, with reinvestment in commercial properties and growth in locally owned businesses. Residents and visitors alike have expressed a renewed interest in the downtown core as a place to live, work, and entertain.
That progress reflects a coordinated effort amongst public, private, and nonprofit partners. The Downtown Mobile Alliance has been instrumental in support for business development, improvement of public spaces, and maintaining a consistent focus on the long-term success of the district. Leadership from The Honorable Sandy Stimpson and Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis has helped align priorities and maintain forward momentum. The Mobile Chamber of Commerce continues to play a key role in promoting economic growth and connecting stakeholders. Equally important are the many private citizens, property owners, and small business operators whose continued investment has strengthened confidence in downtown Mobile’s future.
Downtown revitalization is, at its core, an economic development strategy. A strong central business district attracts employers, supports small businesses, and increases tourism activity. It also reinforces the broader regional economy through job creation and expanding the tax base. Mobile’s position as a port city further enhances its competitive advantage by offering opportunities for growth in logistics, manufacturing, and trade.

My background in economic development, downtown development, and commercial real estate has provided direct experience with the types of projects that drive this kind of progress. Effective revitalization requires disciplined planning, reliable infrastructure, and a regulatory environment that minimizes excessive red tape and encourages investment. It also requires an understanding of how to reposition underutilized properties, recruit new industry, and support existing businesses as they expand.
As Lieutenant Governor, I will support policies that reinforce these efforts. My plan to Build a Better Alabama includes infrastructure improvements, advancement of workforce development initiatives aligned with industry needs, and promoting tourism as a consistent driver of economic activity. It also means ensuring that state-level policy supports, rather than complicates, local redevelopment efforts.
Downtown Mobile’s continued success will depend on maintaining a collaborative approach. With consistent leadership and a focus on long-term economic fundamentals, it can continue to grow as a center of commerce and community. The work underway in Mobile provides a practical example of how targeted investment and coordination can produce measurable results, not only for one city, but for Alabama as a whole. I am genuinely excited for the future of Mobile. Together, we can Build a Better Alabama
