River Region Veterans Coalition Launched to Support Montgomery-Area Veterans

A wide-ranging group of public and private organizations has united to launch the River Region Veterans Coalition (RRVC), a new nonprofit alliance aimed at improving services and support for military veterans in the greater Montgomery area.

The newly formed RRVC brings together military, governmental, and community-based groups in a collaborative, nonpartisan effort modeled after similar veteran coalitions in other regions of the state. Those existing partnerships — including the South Alabama Veterans Council (SAVC) in Mobile, the Central Alabama Veterans Collaborative (CAVC) in Birmingham, and the North Alabama Veterans & Fraternal Organizations Coalition (NAVFOC) in Huntsville — have played a vital role in helping establish the RRVC.

Since its inception, the RRVC has convened two organizational meetings, held in February and March of this year. A variety of veteran service organizations (VSOs) were represented, including:

- Air & Space Forces Association

- American Legion

- Disabled American Veterans

- Marine Corps League

- Military Officers Association of America

- Veterans of Foreign Wars

- Vietnam Veterans of America

Public sector agencies have also joined the effort, including the Alabama National Guard and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

In addition, several private and nonprofit entities have contributed to early meetings, such as Bondfire Ranch, the Council on Substance Abuse, Invisible Warriors, Medicare Salute, Operation Iron Ruck, the American Red Cross, Sage Health, Veterans Education Training & Support (VETS), and the Wounded Warrior Project.

The coalition’s mission is simple yet powerful: to connect veterans in the Montgomery region with the services, support systems, and opportunities they need to thrive after military service.

The next meeting of RRVC will take place on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 6:00 PM at Feast Buffet, 5831 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery, AL 36117.  Focusing on veteran healthcare, the guest speakers for that meeting will be Mr. Amir Farooqi, Executive Director/CEO, Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS), as well as senior leaders of Sage Health.

For more information about RRVC, they can be contacted through their Facebook page.
