Robin Litaker Enters Homewood Mayoral Race
Vows Fiscal and Community Renewal, Transparency, Smart Growth, Inclusivity

Robin Litaker, an experienced educator and passionate community advocate, has formally launched her campaign for Mayor of Homewood. Litaker is running on a platform built on transparency, smart growth, and inclusive leadership.
“I’m running for Mayor because I believe in Homewood’s future and know we can build it together,” Litaker stated. “Our city is growing, and with that comes both opportunities and challenges. I want to ensure that all voices are heard, our neighborhoods are protected, and our schools, businesses, and infrastructure continue to thrive in ways that reflect our shared values.”
Litaker has decades of experience in public education and active civic engagement, and has highlighted her collaborative leadership style, anchored in listening and accountability. She emphasized that these traits are essential as Homewood prepares to welcome a professional city manager in November 2025—a move she supports as a path to stronger governance.
Key pillars of Litaker’s campaign include focusing on smart, sustainable growth that avoids overdevelopment and preserves neighborhood character and enhancing public safety and trust by increasing support for first responders. Litaker, a former Alabama State Teacher of the Year, supports educational excellence and will deepen partnerships between City Hall and Homewood City Schools. She intends to increase governmental transparency, by ensuring residents have a meaningful say in local decisions.
Litaker also called out recent financial troubles of the city. In April, former Finance Director Robert Burgett was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison after admitting to embezzling nearly $950,000 in tax dollars. The city was ordered to collect about $1 million in restitution and has since revamped spending policies, including tighter credit‑card controls and regular audits.
An audit from the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts further criticized city leadership for failing to detect these discrepancies before they escalated.
Litaker argued that “ineffective management and oversight” allowed the misuse of funds. She pledged to restore public trust by instituting stricter financial safeguards and involving residents more directly in budget decisions.
“I love this city,” she added. “As your mayor, I will work every day to make Homewood even better—for all of us.”
Homewood’s municipal election is set for August 26, 2025. Litaker is one of two official mayoral candidates listed by the City of Homewood, alongside current Councilwoman Jennifer Andress.
