Rodney Walker Praises Trump Plan to Protect American Farmland
Conservative Outsider Businessman and Rancher Walker: “Farm Security Is National Security”
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rodney Walker has praised the Trump administration’s new 2026 Farm Security Initiative, calling it a necessary step to protect American farmland and food production from foreign control.
Walker, the only cattle farmer and rancher in Alabama’s GOP Senate contest, said the initiative aligns directly with the reasons he entered the race.
“The Farm Security Initiative dovetails with one of the reasons I am running for Senate: Farm security is national security,” Walker said.
Walker said concerns about foreign ownership of Alabama farmland and timberland were central to his campaign even before it officially launched.
“Before we even launched our campaign, we had been sounding the alarm about the growing threat of foreign ownership of Alabama’s agricultural and timber lands,” Walker said.
He credited Donald Trump, along with Alabama Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville, and Representative Dale Strong (R-AL-5) for leading efforts to defend American property rights and the agricultural economy.
Public data shows roughly 2.2 million acres of Alabama agricultural and timberland are owned by foreign entities, placing the state among the highest in the nation. Much of that land sits above oil and natural gas reserves in South Alabama, including Covington, Crenshaw, Conecuh, and Escambia Counties.
Walker warned that continued foreign acquisition of farmland and mineral resources could weaken both food security and economic independence.
“If we allow our agricultural land and minerals to be gobbled up by foreign adversaries, we risk losing the ability to feed ourselves,” Walker said. “Agriculture must be recognized and treated as a national security issue.”
Under the 2026 Farm Security Initiative, the federal government will:
• Block foreign adversaries from purchasing U.S. farmland
• Review and potentially reverse existing land sales to foreign adversaries
• Expand oversight through the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States
• Increase U.S. Department of Agriculture enforcement actions
• Conduct land ownership audits
• Implement new disclosure requirements
• Elevate food and farmland assets to national security status, alongside energy security, defense supply chains, and biodefense
Walker said the policy also targets foreign ownership of farmland located over valuable oil and mineral deposits.
“Americans need to know if foreign countries, companies or citizens own our farmland or the facilities where it is processed,” Walker said.
“The leadership on this issue by President Trump and Alabama’s Senators Britt and Tuberville and Representative Strong will help insure that the food we feed our families is raised, harvested, and delivered safely and securely.”
He added that food production and distribution, overseen by agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration, must remain under strong American control.
“Even though I am not yet your United States Senator, no one has fought harder to protect our lands, resources, and food supply,” Walker said. “As your next U.S. Senator, I will never lose sight of my responsibility to protect you, your family, and the food you put on your table.”
Walker is one of several Republicans seeking the State’s open U.S. Senate seat ahead of the May 19, 2026, primary. Other declared candidates include Attorney General Steve Marshall, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, Navy Captain Morgan Murphy, Dr. Dale Deas, Jr. and Seth Burton.
