U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL-03) has expressed strong support for the Trump Administration’s decision to resume sales of surplus 1911 pistols through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).

“I am pleased to see that the Trump Administration has decided to release 10,000 surplus pistols and to allow the CMP to resume sales,” Rogers said in a statement. “When I introduced the amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016, I said it was a ‘win-win for the taxpayers.’ I stand by that statement.”

The CMP program enables eligible citizens to purchase surplus military firearms, promoting marksmanship training and firearm safety. Before the initiative, surplus M1911A1 pistols were stored at government expense, costing taxpayers approximately $200,000 annually.

“The CMP 1911 program allows those who would like to own a piece of American military history to apply for ownership and buy these firearms,” Rogers added. “The Biden Administration characteristically decided to put a halt to this effective program last year. Thankfully, the Trump Administration continues to be a champion for gun owners and American excellence.”

Rogers, who is currently the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, was instrumental in securing the 2016 amendment that authorized the Army to transfer surplus vintage firearms to the CMP for public sale. CMP South, based in Anniston, Alabama, manages these transactions.

The decision marks a victory for firearm collectors and Second Amendment advocates, reinforcing the Trump Administration’s pro-gun policies.
