The Rotary Club of Greater Hoover received its official Charter Wednesday evening, marking its debut as the latest Chapter of Rotary International.

The invitation-only event was attended by members of the new Chapter, and by local and regional Rotary leaders including District Governor Dr. Butler Cain, Assistant District Governor Bob Van Loan, Immediate Past District Governor David Allgood, Rotary Club of Hoover President Chris Cooper and Homewood Rotary President Rachael Dollins.

Hoover Mayor Frank Brocado, Hoover City Councilman (and City Council Place 5 candidate) Derrick M. Murphy and City Council Place 2 candidate Kenneth Cox, Jr. were also in attendance.

The Rotary Club of Greater Hoover is Hoover’s second Rotary Club, and now will serve the City alongside the Rotary Club of Hoover.

The new Club has 21 members, and joins the Rotary network of 1.4 million leaders who connect to promote integrity and goodwill, peace, and understanding while providing humanitarian service to their communities.

The Club’s Officers are President Tanveer Patel, President-elect, Raymond Osbun, Vice President Debra Hays, Treasurer Tabassum Halim, and Secretary Adil Patel.

Mr. Van Loan, who officiated Wednesday’s ceremony, said, “This is one of the best things that’s happened in the Rotary world in a long time. Hoover is such a fast-growing city and now has two Rotary clubs to support it, with maybe even more to come. I’m very proud to be part of this initiative, and I know with Tanveer Patel at this club, the Rotary Club of Greater Hoover, and Chris (Cooper) running the legacy Hoover Rotary Club, they are gonna be great.”

Mr. Allgood spoke about how the new Club’s direction would be determined by its members, saying, “Your club gets to determine its focus,. because who better to do that than the people in that community?” He went on to say that he had never seen a Club come together as fast as this one did, under Tanveer Patel’s leadership.

Club President Tanveer Patel, who is also a candidate for Hoover City Council Place 1, said, “Serving feeds my soul, and it is so nice to see people who are like-minded want to come and serve, to do something for the City, and for the world, and the communities where we live. This is touching lives, not only in a city, but also globally.”

Rotary International is a global service organization with over 1.4 million members and 46,000 Clubs who support their local communities in a variety of ways. To learn more about Rotary International, go to Rotary.org.
