RRVC Reschedules 2026 Candidate Forum

The River Region Veterans Coalition (RRVC) has rescheduled its 2026 General Election Candidate Forum, moving the event to late August as organizers prepare for the possibility of a special election earlier that month.

The RRVC announced the forum will now take place Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at Reformation Presbyterian Church, 9299 Vaughn Road, Pike Road, Alabama, 36064.

The program is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM. Candidates and campaign representatives may begin setting up campaign tables at 6:00 PM.

The event is free and open to the public.

The event was moved because of the “likelihood of a Special Election on August 11, 2026,” according to the organization. RRVC leaders said the added time will allow election results to be finalized before candidates appear at the public forum.

The forum will focus on issues affecting Veterans, military families, Veteran-owned businesses, and organizations serving the military community across the River Region. Organizers said candidates will be invited to discuss their platforms and priorities on a range of topics tied to Veteran and military concerns.

Expected discussion topics include Veteran healthcare, mental health services, housing and homelessness prevention, employment opportunities, military family support, and policies affecting former service members.

The event will feature moderated discussion and public engagement. Candidates will also be able to meet with attendees before and after the forum and provide campaign materials to voters.

RRVC is asking Veterans, military families, and members of the public to submit questions ahead of the event through an online form (see below).

“The River Region Veterans Coalition is committed to ensuring that veterans and their families remain part of the conversation during the election process,” said Jason Hughes, Communications Director for RRVC. “By moving the forum date, we hope to ensure voters have the opportunity to hear from the candidates who will officially appear on the General Election ballot while also giving veterans and the community a voice through submitted questions.”

RRVC described the forum as a nonpartisan voter education event intended to encourage civic engagement rather than support any political party or candidate.

The River Region Veterans Coalition’s mission centers on supporting Veterans, Veteran-owned businesses, and organizations that serve military families through outreach, partnerships, advocacy, and community engagement throughout the River Region. For more information, follow the group on Facebook.
