Scott Stadthagen (R-Hartselle) launched his campaign for reelection to the Alabama House on Friday, July 25 to a standing room-only crowd at The Tabernacle Farm in Hartselle.

Stadthagen, who has served in the Legislature since 2016, represents District 9 and is the current Majority Leader in the House.

An estimated 500+ people overflowed the venue, including locals as well as numerous candidates for local and Statewide offices.

ALFA’s Mark Byrd gave Stadthagen both his personal endorsement as well as the endorsement of ALFA. State Senator and Speaker Pro Tem Garland Gudger (R-Cullman) also endorsed Stadthagen and thanked him for his work in the House.

Video endorsements of Stadthagen were shown from U.S. Senator Katie Britt, Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth, State Senator Arthur Orr (R-Decatur), Greg Davis, ALGOP Chairman John Wahl, Col. Bryan Williams, U.S. Army (Ret.), John Barganier, President and CEO of Manufacture Alabama, Mike Pruitt with Gilchrist Pharmacies in Hartselle, Morgan Co. Sheriff Ron Puckett, Christopher Holton, Senior Analyst, Center for Security Policy, Editor Grayson Everett and Owner Paul Shashy of Yellowhammer News and Stephanie Smith, President and CEO of the Alabama Policy Institute.

Stadthagen himself spoke briefly to thank his family for their support, especially during those times when he had to be away in Montgomery. He thanked his pastor, who he frequently counted on for prayer support. He thanked all those who had come to the event. Lastly, he pledged to continue working for his District, to make District 9 the best it could be.

Stadthagen s Friday evening event not only began his campaign with a literal bang—the fireworks made sure of that—but was a major political event for Morgan County and Alabama as a whole, with many of those seeking State offices in attendance. With revival fans proudly displayed—a detail much appreciated, especially early during the event, before the sun set and the temperature dropped—it heartened back to the type of old-time political rally so rarely seen in this day and age. People came not just to support Stadthagen, but to see and be seen, eat good food, hear good music, shake hands, network and “politick” as only Alabamians can.

The fireworks setting the field on fire was just an added bonus. Fortunately, it was quickly extinguished.

Stadthagen s kickoff has moved the bar—already high this cycle—even higher for those who have yet to announce.
