HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Longtime State Sen. Tom Butler has endorsed Republican John Roberts to succeed him in Alabama Senate District 2, saying he is confident the district will be in good hands with Roberts representing North Alabama in Montgomery.
Butler, who is retiring at the end of his current term, has spent over three decades serving Alabama in the state Legislature. He has represented Senate District 2 for much of that time and has been a fixture in North Alabama public service for decades.
“I’ve known John and his family for many years, and I know John will do a great job,” Butler said. “I thoroughly endorse him, and I’m proud that he is seeking this office.

Roberts thanked Butler for his endorsement and his decades of service to the people of North Alabama.
“Senator Butler has spent decades fighting for the people of North Alabama, and I’m honored to have his support,” Roberts said. “He has set an example of what public service should look like by always putting the people of his district first. I’m grateful forhis confidence in me, and I look forward to building on his work and making sure Senate District 2 continues to have a strong voice in Montgomery.”
Roberts has made affordability a central focus of his campaign, with an emphasis on reducing the financial pressure facing families across Senate District 2.
“As a husband and father, I know how important it is to make every dollar count,” Roberts said. “Eliminating Alabama’s grocery tax would give families more room in their budgets and make a real difference in the cost of putting food on the table.”
Roberts is the Republican nominee for Alabama Senate District 2 in the November 3 general election. Senate District 2 includes portions of Madison and Limestone counties.
