Montana Sen. Steve Daines, who led Republicans to retake the U.S. Senate in 2024 as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), endorsed Congressman Barry Moore (R-AL) for U.S. Senate on Wednesday—adding to a growing list of high-profile backers that includes House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan and Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC).

The endorsements come as Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) runs for governor, leaving his seat open in 2026.

“Barry Moore is a conservative who gets things done. He’s the kind of steady leader we need in the Senate,” Daines said. “I’m proud to endorse him and look forward to working together to advance President Trump’s agenda. President Trump is building the American Golden Age, and Barry will be a fitting successor to my friend Senator Tuberville. He’ll stand with us to shrink government, lower taxes, and grow the economy for working families.”

Moore, the first elected official in the nation to endorse Donald Trump in 2015 at a Mobile rally, responded: “I’m honored to have Senator Daines' support. As NRSC Chairman, he led our party to take back the Senate. As a Senator, he’s been a tireless advocate for freedom and economic prosperity. If elected, I will join him in that fight.”

Daines chaired the NRSC from 2023 to 2024, helping Republicans gain four seats—the largest GOP pickup in a presidential election year since 1980.

Moore has also secured the backing of House Freedom Caucus founder Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), a key Trump ally, and Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC), who endorsed him earlier this week.

A three-term congressman from Alabama’s 2nd District, Moore is a member of the House Freedom Caucus. He has been rated Alabama’s most conservative lawmaker by the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and the state’s most effective legislator by the Center for Legislative Excellence. Moore is a National Guard Veteran and a small business owner from Coffee County.

With Tuberville’s gubernatorial campaign underway, the GOP Senate primary is taking shape. The trio of endorsements from Daines, Jordan, and Budd positions Moore as a leading contender to maintain Republican control of the seat.

Congressman Barry Moore is also in the Republican primary race with Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, former Navy Seal Jared Hudson, former Tuberville aid and Navy Reservist Morgan Murphy, and successful businessman Rodney Walker.
