Senators Britt, Grassley Back E-Verify Expansion to Strengthen Workforce Accountability
Bill would expand, permanently authorize E-Verify program

U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has joined Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and fellow Republican lawmakers in introducing the Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act. This legislation aims to assist employers in verifying the legal status of their workforce by expanding and permanently authorizing the E-Verify program.
“I’m proud to support legislation that protects American workers and deters illegal migration,” said Senator Britt. “The E-Verify program is critical to ensuring that illegal aliens cannot work unlawfully in the United States. The American people delivered a clear verdict on this issue last November, and I will continue working to ensure that verdict is carried out.”
The proposed bill would require all employers to use the free, internet-based E-Verify system to confirm whether employees are authorized to work in the U.S. It also includes measures to support businesses in rural areas or regions with limited internet access.
Senator Grassley, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, emphasized the importance of E-Verify in protecting American jobs. “E-Verify is a proven tool for employers, including myself, to ensure our businesses are legally staffed. By reducing incentives for illegal immigration and safeguarding job opportunities for Americans and other legal workers, our bill would boost accountability in the workforce and support our nation’s small businesses,” he said.
Senator Britt has been a leading advocate for stricter immigration enforcement. Earlier this year, her Laken Riley Act became the first bill signed into law by President Donald J. Trump after he took office as the 47th president. The legislation, which received bipartisan support, represents the most significant immigration enforcement measure enacted in nearly three decades.
Britt has been vocal about her commitment to border security, stating in a recent opinion piece: “We will keep the promises we made to the American people by securing our border, detaining and deporting criminal illegal aliens, and restoring order throughout the United States. Our efforts began with the *Laken Riley Act*, but they do not end there. We will continue to turn the will of the people into law, and we will make America safe again.”
Furthering her push for immigration enforcement, Britt has also introduced the WALL Act, which proposes allocating $25 billion to complete construction of a border wall. The legislation aims to secure the southern border without increasing taxes or adding to the national debt. “The United States needs a completed border wall—it is just common sense to have a physical barrier in place to ensure only lawful entry into our country,” she said.
The Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act is expected to face debate in the Senate as lawmakers consider its impact on businesses, immigration enforcement, and the broader workforce.
