Sheila Tyson has endorsed Alicia Escott Lumpkin in her bid for Alabama House District 60, giving the Birmingham Democrat’s campaign a notable late-stage boost as Election Day nears.

The endorsement was announced Tuesday in Birmingham, where Lumpkin is campaigning as a lifelong resident and public servant focused on neighborhood investment and economic growth. Tyson, a longtime member of the Jefferson County Commission, pointed to Lumpkin’s readiness to serve in Montgomery and her focus on community needs.

“I’ve never backed down from a fight for our community. I know the kind of leadership it takes to deliver. Alicia is ready to step up. That’s why I’m proud to endorse her,” said Commissioner Tyson.

Lumpkin said she values Tyson’s backing as the race enters its final stretch, describing the endorsement as a sign of trust from a leader she respects.

“Commissioner Tyson has spent her career standing up for our communities and delivering real results,” said Lumpkin. “To have her support means a great deal to me. I’m ready to bring that same commitment to Montgomery and fight for the people of District 60 every single day.”

The campaign says it continues to build support across Birmingham and Jefferson County, with a focus on expanding job access, strengthening neighborhoods, and delivering services for working families.

Lumpkin’s coalition includes endorsements from a wide range of political, civic, and advocacy groups, including Curtis Travis, the Business Council of Alabama, the Alabama New South Alliance, the Jefferson County Farmers Federation, and the For the Future Victory Fund.

Other supporters include Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, former Birmingham Mayor Richard Arrington Jr., and former State Senator Sandra Escott Russell, along with youth and campus Democratic groups across Alabama.

Advocacy organizations such as The Collective PAC and the Alabama Cannabis Coalition also appear among her supporters, along with Moms Demand Action’s Gun Sense Candidate recognition.

With just weeks remaining before voters head to the polls, Lumpkin’s campaign says it is focused on turnout and final outreach efforts across District 60.
