Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego Endorses Jay Mitchell for Alabama Attorney General
“Jay has the integrity and backbone we need in our next Attorney General“—Sheriff John Samaniego
Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell has secured the endorsement of Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego. The announcement came today and is being seen as a signal of confidence from one of Alabama’s respected law-enforcement figures.
Sheriff Samaniego, who leads one of the State’s most populous Republican strongholds, is widely viewed as a credible voice on public safety and policing. His support is expected to sharpen Mitchell’s appeal, especially among voters who prioritize experience in law enforcement.
Samaniego said his decision rests on both Mitchell’s record and character. “Jay Mitchell has proven himself to be a courageous champion of law and order,” the Sheriff said. “As someone who knows law and boots-on-the-ground policing, I understand how critical his courtroom experience will be to delivering victories to the people of Alabama. Beyond that, Jay has the integrity and backbone we need in our next Attorney General.”
Mitchell welcomed the endorsement, calling the Sheriff “one of Alabama’s finest law enforcement leaders.” He said the backing enhances his campaign’s credibility. “The credibility he brings to this campaign is rooted in his distinguished record of keeping Alabama communities safe and developing a culture of excellence among law enforcement officers and public servants alike,” Mitchell said.
He added: “Sheriff Samaniego’s leadership and dedication to public safety reflect the values at the heart of my campaign for Attorney General.”
Mitchell will face Katherine Robertson and Pamela Casey in the May 19 Republican primary.
