Speaker Johnson Taps Rep. Dale Strong for China Accountability Commission
23 member CECC leads China monitoring efforts
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) has selected Representative Dale Strong (R-AL5) to join the Congressional‑Executive Commission on China (CECC), a bipartisan body tasked with overseeing human rights and the rule of law in China.
"I am proud to be appointed to the CECC as a Commissioner this Congress. The Chinese Communist Party is relentless in its efforts to undermine America, not just through open confrontation but by exploiting our laws, infiltrating our institutions, and using covert tactics to weaken our economy and security from within," said Representative Dale Strong. "This commission plays a critical role in shining a light on abuses and holding the Chinese government accountable."
"For 25 years, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China has done vital work to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable and educate the western world about their abuse of human rights and the rule of law," said Speaker Johnson. "I am honored to appoint my friend Dale Strong to serve on the Commission to continue carrying out this longstanding, bipartisan priority and to ensure that the CCP's abuses do not go unchecked."
Formed in October 2000 under the U.S.–China Relations Act, the CECC monitors human rights and rule-of-law trends in China. It delivers an annual report to Congress and the President and convenes hearings and roundtables with experts from academia, government, and business. Key areas of focus include:
- Forced labor
- Widespread biometric surveillance
- Cultural and religious repression
- Detention of political opponents
The CECC is made up of 23 members: nine senators, nine House representatives, and five senior administration officials appointed by the President.
Rep. Strong has been vocal about China’s influence since entering Congress. This new role places him at the center of U.S. efforts to document and deter Beijing’s global influence and human rights record.
Strong joins a longstanding bipartisan effort to preserve American interests and promote transparency in China policy. His statements reflect a broader consensus in Washington that U.S. involvement in China oversight remains crucial.
