Standing With Alabama’s Working Families, Everett Wess For U.S. Senate

This past weekend, my campaign and I had the privilege of spending time with some of Alabama’s hardworking men and women who make our communities stronger every day.

From picnics and dinners to parades and community gatherings, we had the opportunity to stand alongside organized labor, including members of IBEW Local 558 in the Shoals and the Millwrights & Machine Erectors Local 119, as well as working families who traveled and gathered at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park. I am grateful for the warm welcome, the conversations, and the opportunity to listen to the people who keep Alabama moving forward.

IBEW Local 558 is based in Sheffield and represents workers in the electrical industry. Its mission includes securing employment, adequate pay, reasonable working conditions, and a higher standard of living for workers and their families.

For me, supporting organized labor is personal.

I am a product of blue-collar parents who worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding. I grew up understanding the dignity of work and the sacrifices that working families make to provide for their children and build a better future.

Organized labor helped make lives better for families, friends, and communities across Alabama and America.

Those workers helped take care of families like mine. Now, I want to help take care of them.

As your next Democratic United States Senator from Alabama, I will continue to stand up for working people, good-paying jobs, fair wages, safe workplaces, and the right of workers to have a meaningful voice in their workplace.

I am also proud that the Alabama AFL-CIO has endorsed my campaign. Publicly available endorsement listings identify the Alabama AFL-CIO among the organizations supporting my candidacy.

My campaign believes Alabama's working families deserve a United States Senator who understands that a strong economy must include the people who actually build, manufacture, repair, operate, and maintain the infrastructure and businesses that keep our state moving.

This election is about more than political parties. It is about the future of Alabama's working families.

It is about whether a parent can work hard and still afford to provide for their children.

It is about whether a young person can enter the workforce and find a good-paying job with dignity and opportunity.

It is about whether workers have a voice when decisions are made that affect their wages, benefits, safety, and future.

And it is about whether Alabama will continue to invest in the people who make our state strong.

My opponent and I have significant differences in our records and our relationships with organized labor. My campaign has pointed to labor organizations' ratings of the candidates as evidence of those differences, including ratings attributed to the AFL-CIO and conservative right-to-work organizations.

I know where I stand: I stand with Alabama's working families.

To all of the union members, labor leaders, tradespeople, workers, families, and community members who welcomed us this weekend, thank you.

Thank you for the work you do.

Thank you for the sacrifices you make.

Thank you for strengthening our communities.

And thank you for reminding us that when working people stand together, they can make a difference.

You took care of families like mine.

Now let me take care of you.
