State Sen. April Weaver to Seek Reelection in Alabama Senate District 14
“I have stood tall for the commonsense conservative principles Alabamians embrace”—April Weaver

Alabama State Senator April Weaver (R–Brierfield) has officially launched her campaign for another term in the Alabama State Senate representing District 14. Weaver’s announcement statement noted her work to protect conservative values and curb violent crime across the State as key motivators for her bid for reelection.
“From passing a law that recognizes men are born men, women are born women, and one can never become the other to enacting legislation that keeps violent criminals behind bars by denying early release, I have stood tall for the commonsense conservative principles Alabamians embrace,” Weaver said. “My roots run deep in Senate District 14, and working every day to serve the friends, folks, and families that live here remains the greatest honor of my life.”
Weaver recently introduced the Child Predator Death Penalty Act, a proposal that would allow the death penalty for those convicted of raping or sodomizing children under 12.
She previously championed the Deputy Brad Johnson Act, which curbed early-release “good time” credits for violent offenders—named for a Bibb County deputy killed by an inmate released under the old system (bibbvoice.com).
Other measures Weaver has advanced include:
- The What Is A Woman Act, defining gender strictly as male or female under state law and stating one cannot become the other
- A ban on inhaled intoxicants like “Galaxy Gas” and whippets, following concerns raised by a Shelby County mother
- An exemption from jury duty for nursing mothers, inspired by an incident involving a Jefferson County judge and a breastfeeding juror
- New penalties for “porch piracy,” aimed at reducing package theft in communities
When she joined the Senate, Weaver brought a decade of experience representing District 49 in the Alabama House of Representatives (2010–2020). She also served as Region IV Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under President Trump, overseeing efforts across eight states and six federally-recognized Tribes.
Currently, she chairs the Senate Confirmations Committee and serves on several key panels, including those overseeing finance, health care, judiciary, rules, and transportation and energy.
The Alabama Farmers Federation recently endorsed Weaver in her reelection bid, citing her strong ties to the district and her record on conservative values.
Sen. Weaver took office in the Senate in mid-2021 after winning a special election, and ran unopposed for a full term in 2022.
