Birmingham, AL – Doug Jones, Democratic nominee for governor, released the following statement on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence:
“On America's 250th birthday, remember this: despite the chaos, despite the division, despite the challenges we face, we still live in the greatest country on Earth. Today is not only a day to celebrate our nation, but to recommit ourselves to the work of building a more perfect Union.
We've had our ups and downs. We've made mistakes. But we've always come through because engaged citizens never gave up on what America could be. We the People have kept faith with the bold experiment that began on this day in 1776. Here, the people are in charge.
We've got a lot to be thankful for. We've also got work to do. We need to rebuild trust, strengthen our communities, and leave this country better than we found it.
I’m grateful to call this country home. I believe our best days are still ahead of us. And I’ll never stop believing in the promise of America and in our ability to remain that beacon of hope and freedom for the world.
Happy Fourth of July, and God bless the United States of America."
