Today, I join the members of the Alabama Cannabis Coalition (ACC) at the State House in Montgomery, AL. Our goal for this 7th Annual Alabama Cannabis Coalition Lobby Day is to provide visibility to this issue that carries great significance to many Alabamians.
Those in attendance will pursue conversations with Alabama legislators to review the current and pending legislation, and we will voice concerns while advocating for reform on the issues surrounding cannabis and hemp. I am grateful to the ACC for allowing me to deliver the Keynote Address for this important event.
The implementation of HB445 created far reaching consequences that have impacted the people of our state. Many hemp shop owners had to close businesses or layoff employees. These are small business owners in pursuit of the American Dream, and the broad stokes of this legislation did not create a pathway for many of them to survive despite their hard work.
Veterans that accessed certain hemp products to alleviate symptoms of PTSD as well as citizens that suffer chronic pain conditions have been impacted. These citizens of Alabama deserve to pursue health and happiness.
I thank the ACC in their continuing mission to support reform on these issues with fact-based and data-driven information, and I will lend my support in the pursuit of bringing meaningful change on this issue.
