Statement from Dr. Will Boyd, Democratic Candidate for Governor of Alabama
Throughout history, there are figures that appear to be larger than life. When those people leave us, we receive the gift of their legacy. However, alongside that gift we are bestowed with a great responsibility to manifest their purpose and passion through continuous progress.
Today, my wife and I join so many others in honoring just such a man, the Reverand Jesse Jackson. Rev. Jackson was the embodiment of a servant leader, who spent his life fighting for justice, equality, and human dignity for so many. He demonstrated what true courage looks like as a civil rights activist and a former presidential candidate.
Rev. Jackson created support structures for so many people he never met directly. I was blessed to have the opportunity to meet with him personally and shared a commitment with him to our Omega Psi Phi fraternity brotherhood.
As an African American, I draw inspiration and purpose from his legacy. We must continue to push forward relentlessly in the pursuit of justice, unity, and civil rights for all. I will seek to honor the path he walked before us by giving voice to those who need to be heard.
My family, my team, and I want to offer our sincere condolences to Reverend Jackson’s family. With deep gratitude and humility, we commit to continue his fight for justice and equality. We will keep his words close to our hearts. “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it, I know I can achieve it.”
