Statement from Dr. Will Boyd On the Shutdown Effects to the TSA
From the Boyd campaign
From the Boyd campaign
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees ensuring travel safety are hard-working Americans. The partial shutdown stopping pay for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including the TSA, is approaching 60 days, and employees cannot feed their families or pay bills.
Democratic members of Congress have proposed several bills to fund the TSA, and some Republican leaders are ready to find a compromise, but all efforts have been voted down. If a bill could provide paychecks and stop the issues we are experiencing, why are our elected officials refusing?
President Donald Trump directed the Senate to reject any agreement that does not fully fund DHS, including Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as pass the SAVE Act which alters voter ID requirements. Alabama Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt have complied. The job of a Senator is to protect the people, not gamble with our lives. Instead of providing safety by paying trained TSA employees, untrained ICE agents have been deployed to airports.
This situation is deadly serious. Alabamians must question why Tommy Tuberville is running for Governor of Alabama, when he does not place the security of the people first. We cannot expect him to operate any differently in the future. As Governor, I vow to make the safety of all Alabamians my top priority.

Democratic Candidate for Governor of Alabama
