Statement from Keith O. Williams on the 7th Annual Alabama Cannabis Coalition Lobby Day
Independent Candidate for AL HD 55 says Alabama should prioritize public health, safety, accountability, ensure patients have access without unnecessary disruption
From the Williams campaign
This week, I participated in the Alabama Cannabis Coalition’s Lobby Day, where I had the opportunity to meet the people behind the organization and engage with patients, advocates, and small business owners who are directly affected by Alabama’s current cannabis policies.
While I briefly outlined my campaign and my approach to fair and responsible cannabis regulation, most of my time was spent listening. Hearing concerns firsthand — about access, affordability, overcriminalization, and the barriers faced by small businesses — is essential to shaping policy that actually works for people.
I believe cannabis reform in Alabama should prioritize public health, safety, and accountability, while ensuring patients have access without unnecessary disruption to their lives. Any regulatory framework must also create meaningful opportunities for local and small businesses, rather than concentrating benefits in the hands of large corporations or pharmaceutical interests.
I appreciated the opportunity to engage with members of the press during the event and to discuss why evidence-based, patient-centered reform is needed. I look forward to continuing these conversations, learning more from those impacted, and working toward solutions that reduce harm, increase fairness, and reflect the realities Alabamians are facing.
Keith O. Williams is running as an Independent candidate for the seat in Alabama House District 55. He will face incumbent Travis Hendrix in the General Election on November 3, 2026.
