Strong Secures $6.2 Million for Water and Sewer Upgrades in Rural North Alabama
Rep. Dale Strong

Congressman Dale Strong (R-AL5) has secured more than $6.2 million in federal funds to improve water and sewer infrastructure in rural communities of North Alabama. The money comes from the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies bill (H.R. 5371), which was recently signed into law.

A statement from Rep. Strong’s office breaks the funding breaks down:

  • $5,175,000 for the town of Ardmore to build a groundwater treatment facility. This will replace aging wells that have failed over time and provide a more reliable source of clean drinking water.
  • $1,087,500 for the town of Triana to make sanitary sewer upgrades. These improvements are aimed at making sure the sewer system stays up and running, even during power outages.

“Every community deserves access to safe drinking water and reliable infrastructure,” Strong said. “The Town of Ardmore has faced significant challenges with its aging wells, and this new groundwater treatment facility will provide a long-term, sustainable solution for families and businesses that rely on a clean, consistent water supply.”

Ardmore’s Mayor, Billy Shannon, noted that the town has had to lean on outside sources for water just to keep up with demand. “This federal funding will finally allow us to increase Ardmore’s water capacity…We’re a small town and couldn’t have taken on a project of this size without help from Congressman Strong. This is a major victory for the citizens of Ardmore, and we’re deeply grateful for his support.”

Strong also stressed how essential these kinds of federal investments are for rural places. “The improvements in Triana will strengthen the town’s sewer system and ensure residents continue receiving dependable service without disruption,” he said. “Modernizing this essential infrastructure will allow Triana to continue to grow.”

Mary Caudle, Mayor of Triana, added that Strong has long supported the town—even during his earlier role as Chairman of the Madison County Commission. “This much-needed funding will allow us to make critical upgrades to our wastewater system and ensure reliable service for residents even during power outages. It’s a major win for our town, and we’re grateful for his continued partnership and support.”

Strong’s push for this funding is part of a broader strategy: as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, he has focused on bringing federal dollars to North Alabama for infrastructure, public health, and rural development.

“These projects strengthen infrastructure and support rural communities. The people of North Alabama deserve to get a fair share of the money they send to Washington in federal taxes, and I am proud to have championed these projects,” Strong said.

H.R. 5371 is one of the first three out of the twelve Fiscal Year 2026 spending bills to be signed into law. Strong says he will continue working to secure funding for more projects as Congress completes the rest of the FY26 budget.
