Alabama State Representative Susan DuBose (R-Hoover) has filed qualifying papers to seek a second term in the Alabama House of Representatives for District 45. In her announcement, DuBose cited a record of conservative legislative wins and vowed to continue advancing her policy priorities.

“Throughout the Biden administration, Alabama was on the front lines in the War Against Woke, and we successfully defended the traditional morals and conservative values that so many of us hold close,” DuBose said. “With a new term in office, I will continue fighting for our values and working to provide the residents of District 45 with the personal representation and responsive constituent service that they expect and deserve.”

DuBose’s first term in Montgomery has included sponsorship of major conservative measures that became law. She was the House sponsor of the What Is a Woman? Act, a bill codifying definitions of sex-based terms into state law. The legislation, passed by the Legislature in 2025 and signed by Gov. Kay Ivey, defines “man,” “woman,” “male” and “female” based on biological sex at birth. Supporters, including DuBose, said the act provides legal clarity across state agencies and courts.

Earlier in her term, DuBose led a 2023 bill that requires college athletes to compete according to their biological sex rather than gender identity. That measure passed the Legislature and was signed into law to protect women’s sports.

DuBose has also championed a series of laws expanding parental rights and support for families. One law increased the age of medical majority from 14 to 16, giving parents greater access to their children’s medical decisions. Other measures she carried include exempting nursing mothers from jury duty and ensuring pregnant women receive care while applying for Medicaid benefits.

In her Committee roles on Health and Education Policy, DuBose said she has pushed to reduce maternal and infant mortality and improve healthcare access in rural areas. She also promoted school choice, career and technical education, and stronger standards in public education.

Looking ahead, DuBose said she will prioritize improving public schools with a focus on career development programs. She said these efforts aim to equip all students with the skills needed for the 21st-century workforce upon graduation.

DuBose also created the annual “Girls’ Day at the Capitol” — an event for seventh- through twelfth-grade girls to meet female lawmakers, engage in a mock legislative debate, and tour the governor’s residence.

She has been recognized for her work by several organizations. DuBose was named a “Champion Woman” by the Independent Women’s Forum in 2024 for her advocacy on women’s sports and was selected as a Club for Growth Fellow the same year. Yellowhammer News included her in its 2025 “Women of Impact” class.

A longtime leader in the Shelby County Republican Party, DuBose holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of South Alabama and an MBA from Spring Hill College. She and her husband, Dennis, have a son and a daughter.
