Tea Party Patriots Action have launched a three-week bus tour they’ve dubbed the Only Citizens Vote Tour. The mission: to drum up grassroots support for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act and push Congress to attach it to must-pass legislation when it returns in September.

The tour kicked off on Monday, August 18, in Garden Grove, California, and will travel through at least 18 states plus the District of Columbia, with roughly 20 stops along the way. It all ends on September 10, with a rally at Upper Senate Park near the U.S. Capitol, where bus tour participants will deliver petition signatures to lawmakers.

The Only Citizens Vote Tour will be in Montgomery, Alabama on Tuesday, August 26th from 3:00-5:00 PM CST, at the State Capitol, 600 Dexter Ave, Montgomery, 36104. For more information about the Montgomery event and to RSVP, go to this link.

Jenny Beth Martin, Honorary Chairman of Tea Party Patriots Action, said:

“Tea Party Patriots Action is proud to be starting an ambitious, nationwide bus tour to rally support for the SAVE Act as necessary legislation to enhance the integrity of our elections.”

She also noted that, while the House passed the bill on April 10 with support from every Republican and four Democrats, it still needs backing from at least seven Senate Democrats to become law. Hence their call to attach it to “must-pass” bills like the budget resolution, omnibus spending package, or the National Defense Authorization Act.

The group plans to rally participants at each stop and collect signatures for a petition urging Congressional leaders to pair the SAVE Act with essential legislation. Those signatures will be presented during the final rally on September 10.

A recent poll by McLaughlin & Associates of 1,000 likely general-election voters showed that 83% support requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote, while 13% oppose it. Broken down by party, the approval rates are 92% of Republicans, 73% of Democrats, and 82% of Independents.

Martin criticized what she calls the “honor system” of voter registration, which relies on self-attestation of citizenship. As she put it:

“The legacy media keep insisting that requiring proof of citizenship is redundant, because noncitizen voting is already illegal. What they don’t explain is that there is currently no enforcement method to ensure that the law is being followed. This is where the SAVE Act comes in — it adds an important safety mechanism to ensure the law is being implemented as intended.”

She also highlighted the group’s past work: in the last two election cycles, Tea Party Patriots Action recruited and trained 35,000 poll watchers and poll workers.

Martin gave credit to Rep. Chip Roy and Sen. Mike Lee for co-authoring the bill, and Speaker Mike Johnson for shepherding it through the House. But she stressed the urgency now:

“Now we need congressional leaders to take the bold but necessary step to get this bill signed into law; it must be attached to ‘must-pass’ legislation, and the sooner the better. This is one of the most important issues Congress will take up during this session, and we must do everything we can to get it across the finish line.”

The SAVE Act would require documentary proof of citizenship to register—adding a layer of security supporters say is missing under current law. Critics argue that existing laws already prohibit non-citizens from voting, making such requirements unnecessary. However, such criticism ignores recent cases of documented non-citizen voting.

In Alabama, the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID) has been introduced to improve the accuracy and fidelity of the voting rolls. AVID has been gaining popularity with other States, and now is used as a cooperative framework among 11 States.
