Republican Terri LaPoint formally qualified on Tuesday, Jan. 20, to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Alabama’s 3rd Congressional District. LaPoint filed her paperwork at the Alabama GOP headquarters in Hoover to appear on the May 19, 2026, Republican primary ballot, setting the stage for a grassroots primary challenge in the 2026 election cycle.

LaPoint said after qualifying that:

“I am excited about this next step in my journey to Congress. I have spent my life serving families in one way or another, as has my firefighter husband. As an investigative journalist, I was able to uncover and expose much in the way of governmental overreach and corruption, which led to children's lives being saved and families being restored. I've been going to Washington DC since 2019, and to Montgomery longer than that, advocating for families and what is right. When I become a Congresswoman, I will be able to fight more effectively for  Alabama families, conservative values, and freedom.
“America was built on solid, Constitutional principles, and Alabama voters deserve representatives in Washington DC who understand that, and will fight tenaciously for what is right without compromising with evil. I am that person. Vote Terri LaPoint for Congress District 3.”

LaPoint, an award-winning investigative journalist and author, is campaigning as a conservative voice for families and parental rights. At her campaign launch last March, LaPoint told ALpolitics.com that:

“Alabama families deserve a voice. For too long, Washington DC has been ignoring the needs of everyday families across Alabama and across America. I've been an advocate for families for several decades, and my record shows that. The forgotten family deserves a voice, and I will be that voice.”
“I am a true conservative. I'm not a politician. I'm not part of the establishment. This is a grassroots campaign. But I promise to fight for families until my dying breath.”

A resident of Odenville and President of the Republican Women of Trussville, LaPoint has highlighted her work investigating child welfare cases and government overreach. Her campaign emphasizes issues such as government accountability, medical freedom, and stronger support for families.

LaPoint has also been active on parental rights issues. She recently signed the Moms for Liberty Parent Pledge, saying she believes “parents — not bureaucrats or government agencies — are best equipped to raise, guide, and protect their children.”

Pastor Jason Hooper of King’s Way Church had this to say about LaPoint:

“For years, Terri has been a courageous and unwavering advocate for the voiceless, the vulnerable, and the overlooked in our society. Her tireless work exposing injustice, defending families, and shining a light into places where many would prefer to look away has revealed a rare combination of conviction, compassion, and courage. Terri embodies the kind of principled leadership our nation desperately needs in this hour.”

Her platform includes defending parental authority in education and health decisions and advocating for transparency in governance. LaPoint also publicly praised a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding a State ban on gender-affirming care for minors as a “common sense decision” that supports parental rights, reinforcing her stance on the issue.

LaPoint joins incumbent Rep. Mike Rogers on the Republican primary ballot in the race for the district representing eastern and central Alabama, which includes Anniston, Auburn, Gadsden, and Talladega.
