The Baptist Paper Launches Printed, Hard-Copy Kids Edition
Brings Paper, No-Screen, Faith-based Fun to Young Readers

The Baptist Paper has just rolled out its new Kids Edition, designed to engage children, and their families, with faith-based content that doesn’t come from a screen.
The debut issue blends scripture, science, jokes, art, baking, crafting, and puzzles—all in one package “to engage mind, body and spirit on each page.” The goal is to offer a hands-on reading experience parents, grandparents, church leaders and kids can share—without requiring tablets or phones.
The idea for a youth-oriented paper stems from long-held affection for print journalism. In her editorial announcing the new project, Managing Editor Carrie Brown McWhorter recalls decades of enjoying newspapers and magazines, from her school years in the 1970s to her graduate studies in journalism.
She describes launching The Alabama Reader as a student—a free monthly newspaper for fourth graders—and handling everything from writing stories to mailing issues to schools. Though she never profited financially, McWhorter says she learned invaluable lessons in journalism and business.
When TAB Media floated the idea of a children’s paper with a Christian focus, McWhorter and others saw an opening for something distinct yet familiar: a publication combining faith and fun in a low-tech format.
The digital revolution has reshaped publishing, but McWhorter argues there’s lasting value in something tangible.
“The internet changed the publishing world, but many of us still love print newspapers, books and magazines—to hold or carry with us as we go, maybe to complete the latest crossword, word search or number puzzle as we enjoy our morning coffee,” McWhorter said.
She hopes children will delight in this edition crafted just for them, and that other family members or educators will join in. “So grab Section B, a pencil and crayons, and enjoy! The best part? No phones or tablets needed!” she writes.
The Kids Edition represents a fresh direction for The Baptist Paper: marrying old-school print charm with faith content, while encouraging genuine interaction between children and their loved ones. As it debuts, its creators hope it finds a place at kitchen tables, church classrooms and in the hands of curious readers.
