The Moore You Know Column: President Trump’s Rescissions to the Rescue
Rep. Barry Moore

Guest Opinion by Congressman Barry Moore (R-AL1)

From the time I served in the Alabama State Legislature to today, I’ve been a steadfast advocate for fiscal responsibility. That same fight continued this week in Washington, where House Republicans took a bold step forward by passing President Trump’s rescissions package

This package claws back $9.4 billion in taxpayer dollars by cutting funding to woke, wasteful, America-last programs. That includes ending $135 million in funding to the World Health Organization (WHO), which has consistently failed the American people and cozied up to the Chinese Communist Party. Instead of holding bad actors accountable, the WHO has chosen politics over public health - and the American taxpayer has footed the bill for far too long.

House Republicans also voted to slash funding for radical Green New Deal-style initiatives, such as the $6 million for “Net Zero Cities” in Mexico. The American taxpayer should not be footing the bill for cities in foreign countries to change or update their own infrastructure. We also voted to end taxpayer funding for so-called “equity” projects that divide us rather than unite us and to eliminate funding that promotes LGBTQ+ agendas abroad.

The rescissions package also targets NPR, who has strayed from their original mission of providing balanced, educational programs for Americans. NPR’s blatant radical propagandadisguised as news has led to a 2022 NPR feature on a community of "genderqueer dinosaur enthusiasts” and “trans-ceratops”, the “cousin of diet culture” known as “healthism, which is the idea that we have to be healthy”, and a suggestion that animals deserve pronouns. These are only a few examples of the bias that Americans are being forced to subsidize for a media organization that treats them with contempt.

This package is only the beginning. We’re working with President Trump to eliminate $2.5 billion earmarked for foreign development assistance under USAID and instead using taxpayer dollars to fund what matters - securing our southern border, improving care for our veterans, and investing in the economic backbone of this country.

The days of sending billions to global pet projects while neglecting our own people are over. This is how we start to chip away at our nearly $37 trillion national debt: by identifying and eliminating waste, standing firm against the Left’s radical agenda, and ensuring every taxpayer dollar actually serves the American people.

The American people deserve a government that puts them first. This rescissions package is just the beginning - and I’m proud to continue fighting for fiscal responsibility in Washington.
