The Moore You Know: April 2026

From the office of Congressman Barry Moore

Welcome to our April newsletter!
This month we were hard at work up in DC and in the district to deliver for the people of Alabama.
If you need help from my office with the VA, IRS, or another federal agency, or with a government service like passport processing, please reach out to us. We’ve resolved over 7,800 cases since I took office in 2021. I promise I will continue to fight for you, your family, and Alabama’s 1st Congressional District.
Please reach out to my office at barrymoore.house.gov or 202-225-2901 if we can help you or your family in any way and keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,
Barry Moore, Member of Congress

Introduced the Americans First Immigration Act

Iintroduced the Americans First Immigration Act, sweeping legislation that will overhaul the nation's legal immigration system by prioritizing American workers, strengthening the nuclear family, and ensuring newcomers are selected based on merit, not chance.

Key provisions of the America First Immigration Act include:

  • Ending the Diversity Visa Lottery and replacing randomness with a merit-based system.
  • Prioritizing the nuclear family by limiting family-sponsored immigration to spouses and minor children.
  • Creating a points-based immigration system that rewards education, English proficiency, high-paying job offers, military service, and extraordinary achievement.
  • Requiring employers to recruit American workers first and ensure foreign labor does not displace U.S. workers.
  • Requiring applicants to affirm constitutional principles and reject practices such as honor killings and female genital mutilation.
  • Preserving a capped allocation for religious workers while eliminating lower-priority pathways.
  • Requiring public colleges and universities to charge non-permanent residents at least the out-of-state tuition rate.
  • Streamlining legal immigration to focus on long-term economic contribution and assimilation.

Introduced National Veterans Strategy Act

I introduced the National Veterans Strategy Act of 2026 in the House, alongside Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). This bipartisan legislation would require the federal government to establish a clear, coordinated national strategy to improve the well-being and long-term success of America’s veterans.

The National Veterans Strategy Act addresses this gap by requiring the President to establish measurable metrics of veteran success and to submit a comprehensive National Veterans Strategy to Congress every four years. The strategy would align federal, state, local, tribal, nonprofit, and private-sector efforts around shared goals to better support veterans as they transition to civilian life.

Named a top conservative in Congress with 100% rating from Heritage Action

I received a 100% Conservative rating from Heritage Action. This rating is based on key votes and co-sponsorships during the 119th Congress.

The people of Alabama expect me to keep my promises, and a 100% rating from Heritage Action shows I’m doing just that - standing firm for limited government, secure borders, fiscal responsibility, and individual freedom. This scorecard reflects the real fights in Congress, from stopping a Central Bank Digital Currency to rolling back reckless spending and woke Biden-era policies. I’m proud to stand with President Trump and the conservative movement, and will keep working every day to defend Alabama values and put the American people first.

The full Heritage Action Scorecard for the 119th Congress can be found here.

Fought to make Congress more transparent to the American people

I’m proud to be an original cosponsor of a resolution being led by my friends Reps. Stephanie Bice and Josh Brecheen.

H.Res.1164 requires any Member of Congress who uses Treasury funds to settle a lawsuit to appear on the House floor within 30 days for public disclosure of the case details.

Failure to comply means removal from committees and leadership roles. Former Members who don’t comply will lose access to the House floor.

Getting an update on the Gulf Shores International Airport

It was great having Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft, Mayor Pro Tem Philip Harris, Councilman Jason Dyken, City Administrator Jon Walker, Gulf Shores International Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh, and Director of Economic Development Blake Phelps in DC this month to talk about the recent success and growth of Gulf Shores International Airport and future plans!

Prioritizing Alabama on Capitol Hill

I enjoyed speaking to the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber during their D.C. fly-in this past week!  I was proud to share and update on Space Command, what we are doing in Washington to ensure industry continues to choose Alabama, and how our delegation makes sure Alabamians are never overlooked in Congress!

Highlighting Resources for Alabama Veterans

Team Moore joined the Wounded Warrior Project for a brunch and learn event this month. We had the opportunity to learn about the Wounded Warrior Project, the services they provide for our nation's veterans, and what they are already doing for those who have served in Alabama.

Celebrating New Business in Dothan

Team Moore attended the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the new Goldfinger's Restaurant in Dothan. There was a big crowd in attendance to see the "Goldfinger" Mustang owned by the owner of Goldfinger's. It was encouraging to hear about the role faith plays in his life and business and how supportive the community has been.

Bringing Tourism to Downtown Mobile

Team Moore was in Mobile this month for the naming of Regions Arena, which will open early next year. This 10,000 seat facility will host sporting events, entertainment, and community events to bring tourism to downtown Mobile.

Touring Vets to Cowboys in Grand Bay

My staff  joined Vets to Cowboys on a tour to learn about how they provide mentorship, training, and help for veterans looking to gain the necessary skills to manage their own cattle operations. We’re forever grateful to the men and women who serve and for organizations like Vets to Cowboys that help them once they hang the uniform up.
