“The Race for Alabama is Coming Down to the Wire”

October 26

I don’t have a ton of time between campaign stops, so I’ll get right to it:

The race for Alabama is coming down to the wire. That’s not my line. That’s what AL.com. said over the weekend.

A year ago, nobody in Montgomery would have written that sentence, and the Republicans running this state certainly didn’t think they’d be reading it with a week to go.

But here we are. Essentially one week to go, and Alabama is in play.

It’s not just the headlines saying it. The national ratings agencies, the folks whose whole job is to cut through the hype, have been moving races here in our direction over the last few weeks and months.

I’ve seen why on the road. I’ve seen it in packed rooms in counties Republicans thought they owned. I’ve heard it from folks who told me they’d never volunteered for anything in their lives and are now knocking doors on Saturday mornings. I’ve felt it in every church hall and every diner where somebody pulled me aside to say, “This year feels different.”

It is different. And the other side knows it.

But I’ll be straight with you: Races that come down to the wire are won by whoever finishes strongest. The last week is when every organizer, every phone call, every door, and every ride to the polls decides what happens on November 3rd. Momentum gets you to the wire. Resources get you across it.

I hear you. I see you. And next Tuesday, Alabama voters get to be heard.

Now back on the road.

Senator Bobby Singleton
