President Donald Trump continues to dominate Republican politics in Alabama, according to the first statewide survey from The Alabama Poll, a new research group focused on the State’s voters.

Conducted August 24–26, 2025, the poll questioned 600 likely Republican primary voters ahead of the May 2026 elections and found 88% approve of Trump’s job performance, with nearly three-quarters saying they support both him and his policies. The margin of error is ±4 percentage points. The poll contained a mix of live telephone interviews and secure online responses.

Attorney General Steve Marshall emerged as the early favorite in the race for U.S. Senate. He drew 37% support in a crowded Republican field, well ahead of Rep. Barry Moore at 16%, former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson at 7%, and businessman Rodney Walker at 1%. About 40% remain undecided.

“President Trump remains the king in Alabama with unprecedented support among Alabama Republicans, with job approval numbers higher than I’ve ever seen in over 30 years of politics,” said Michael Lowry, founder of The Alabama Poll. “Attorney General Steve Marshall has also come out of the gate very impressively in a crowded Senate Primary…All other races remain toss-ups, which makes AG Marshall’s lead particularly noteworthy.”

Other Key Findings:

  • Statewide Favorability: Sen. Katie Britt leads the State’s political figures with a 76% favorable rating, followed closely by Sen. Tommy Tuberville at 74%.
  • Lieutenant Governor: Secretary of State Wes Allen holds 28% support, while Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate trails at 12%. 61% percent are undecided.
  • Attorney General: With 74% undecided, State Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell leads at 13%, followed by judges Pamela Casey (7%) and Katherine Robertson (6%).
  • Secretary of State: State Auditor Andrew Sorrell (20%) and attorney Caroleene Dobson (16%) are virtually tied, but 64% remain undecided.
  • Agriculture Commissioner: Former state Rep. Jack Williams leads with 10%, ahead of Christina Woerner McInnis (7%) and Corey Hill (6%); 77% are undecided.

Marshall’s strongest numbers appear in the Huntsville and Birmingham media markets, where his approval ratings outpace rivals despite Rep. Moore’s previous advertising push in south Alabama.

Lowry, a veteran strategist and former chief of staff to Rep. Robert Aderholt, launched The Alabama Poll this year to provide “accurate, timely data” on state politics. He said the 2026 races remain wide open. “Candidates have the opportunity to define not only themselves, but their opponents as well…The successful candidate will be the one who can raise the funds to spread their message and seize control of the narrative over the next eight months,” he said.
