President Donald Trump has decided against launching further strikes on Iran following its failed missile attack on a U.S. base in Qatar, according to U.S. officials and White House sources.

“As long as it stands, Trump has no intention of retaliating for the ‘failed retaliation,’” a Pentagon official told The New York Post on Monday afternoon.

That position was echoed by a White House representative as well another insider close to the administration, who said: “After achieving his goal of destroying their nuclear program, the President is clearly heading toward a de‑escalatory path that doesn’t involve plunging us into a forever war with Iran.”

A further source said Trump’s inner circle believes he wants to end direct military engagement with Iran, resume diplomatic talks, and promote peace in the region.

Late Monday, Trump said Iran launched 14 missiles toward Al‑Udeid Air Base near Doha—a major facility hosting U.S. forces. Thirteen were intercepted, and the last was allowed to proceed because it "was headed in a nonthreatening direction.”

According to one military official, Iran coordinated the strike to let Qatar “save face,” and may have even warned Doha in advance.

Trump’s restraint mirrors his approach in January 2020, when Iran retaliated for the U.S. killing of Gen. Qasem Soleimani by striking the al‑Asad air base in Iraq—again, no Americans were harmed.

The recent conflict began over the weekend with U.S.-led airstrikes—using 14 bunker-buster bombs and 30 Tomahawks—on Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. Trump said the missions had “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s enrichment capabilities.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump praised the intercept operation. “NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done,” he wrote. He also thanked Iran for giving warning before the attack, calling it an opportunity for peace: “Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.”

He later confirmed that no casualties were caused by the attack:

The President later posted “ CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT'S TIME FOR PEACE!“

While Trump’s public comments have shifted, insiders say strategic messaging has been used to mask his actual intentions—first by downplaying the threat before the weekend strikes, then hinting he might delay further action for up to two weeks.

The President's posts seem to indicate that he is relying on military success paired with restraint. After a successful strike on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, he appears to be moving back towards diplomacy, not escalation. His responses suggest he’s confident that recent strikes met his goals without requiring further attacks.
