Trump Touts Border Record, Renews $5,000 Dividend Pitch
At his Dalton rally, Trump urged a GOP midterm win to secure border gains, make tax breaks permanent and deliver payments to adults
President Donald Trump took his midterm pitch to Dalton, Georgia, Friday, touting tighter border enforcement, job gains and tax relief while renewing his promise of $5,000 payments if Republicans keep control of Congress.
Campaigning for U.S. Senate nominee Mike Collins and gubernatorial hopeful Rick Jackson, Trump urged supporters to vote as though he were on the ballot. The Nov. 3 election, he argued, will decide whether Republicans can protect and expand his agenda.
“So, this is really, I think, the most important midterm election maybe we’ve ever had because there’s never been anything like what we’ve done,” Trump said.
Border enforcement was central to that case. Trump credited Collins and congressional Republicans with helping reverse the prior administration’s policies. He pointed to action against the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua and the removal of gang members to a prison in El Salvador.
“In the past 17 months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted into the United States through our southern border,” Trump said.
Trump also called for a law to bind future Presidents to stricter enforcement.
“We will pass the No Invasion of our Country Act, prohibiting any future President from ever opening our borders to illegal immigrants,” he said.
On the economy, Trump pointed to stock market gains, factory construction and new investment pledges. He claimed record employment and income, along with record low poverty rates.
“This year alone, we’ve created 70,000 manufacturing jobs and 50,000 construction jobs,” he said. “And next year, those numbers will be doubled, more than doubled.”
Trump cited more than $21 trillion in investment commitments as evidence that his trade policies are drawing business to the United States. He argued that tariffs encourage firms to build here rather than pay duties on imports.
The President tied that economic pitch to his proposed dividend.
“If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, I am going to give all adult citizens in the United States $5,000,” Trump said.
He placed the cost at roughly $1 trillion and pointed to tariff revenue and investment commitments to support his case.
“So the only caveat is you have to spend that $5,000 in the United States of America,” he said.
Trump also highlighted the tax package he signed and pledged to extend its benefits.
“We will make all Trump tax cuts permanent, including no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on social security for our great seniors,” he said.
Trump also touted a deduction for interest on qualifying car loans, stressing the requirement that vehicles be made in America. He cast the tax cuts, border policies and proposed dividend as reasons to return Republicans to power.
“But you have to go out and vote,” he told the crowd. “You have to go out and vote. So, pretend I’m on the ballot.”
