Trump’s Tariffs Prove Critics Wrong as Inflation Falls
Year over year inflation has eased to 2.6%, well below predictions

U.S. producer price inflation (PPI) declined 0.1 percent in August, defying forecasts that called for a 0.3 percent increase and shocking media and Wall Street alike. On a year-over-year basis, inflation eased to 2.6 percent, well below the expected 3.3 percent. It was the first monthly decline since April, signaling clear progress on the inflation front.
CNBC’s Rick Santelli could hardly hide his shock when reading the numbers live on air. “PPI, wholesale inflation for August, expected to be up 0.3 %. No, no, no. Down -0.1 % … Wow. That would be the first negative number since April of this year …” he said. Santelli went on to add, “And boy, I’m surprised! Real progress here! 2.6 % on year-over-year headline! We were expecting 3.3 % in the rear-view mirror.”
By contrast, under Joe Biden, Americans endured some of the worst inflation in decades—more than 21% over four years. Families watched grocery bills, gas prices, and housing costs skyrocket while the White House downplayed the pain. Biden’s open-border policies flooded the labor market, his reckless spending fueled price hikes, and his weak trade agenda left U.S. industries vulnerable. Particularly hard-hit were lower-income households, who faced stagnant wages amid rising essentials, straining budgets and eroding confidence across the country.
For months, President Trump’s critics claimed his tough tariff policies would unleash a wave of higher prices. Economists and pundits warned of runaway inflation, predicting that ordinary Americans would bear the brunt of higher costs. Instead, the data shows the opposite. Prices are cooling, and the President’s strategy of putting America first on trade has not sparked the inflationary crisis that so many “experts” insisted was inevitable.
The truth is now undeniable. Trump’s critics got it wrong, and they owe the American people—and the President—an apology. The very policies they derided are helping deliver relief at a time when families need it most. For everyday workers, small businesses, and households trying to stretch their dollars, this is more than just a statistic—it’s evidence that strong leadership and America-first policies work.
