Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh appointed State Director for Rural Development
USDA appointment involves overseeing rural economic prosperity and infrastructure programs
Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh, President of the Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC), has been appointed as the State Director for Rural Development in Alabama by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This appointment is part of a broader initiative by President Donald J. Trump's administration to bolster rural communities across the nation.
In her new role, Cavanaugh will oversee programs aimed at enhancing economic prosperity and infrastructure in Alabama's rural areas. Her responsibilities will include implementing policies that support farmers, ranchers, and producers, aligning with the administration's "America First" agenda.
Cavanaugh expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "It is with a grateful heart that I inform you of my decision to step down as President of the Alabama Public Service Commission on Sunday, June 1, 2025. It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Alabama in this capacity." She further emphasized her commitment to conservative principles and dedication to the state's citizens.
Her departure from the PSC, where she has served since 2010, leaves a vacancy that Governor Kay Ivey is expected to fill in the coming days.
U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) praised the appointment, noting Cavanaugh's advocacy for Alabama's family farmers and rural communities. "These well-deserved leadership roles will ensure that Alabama’s farmers and cattlemen have strong advocates who understand firsthand their current priorities and challenges," Britt said.
