Virginia Joins Alabama's AVID Voter Integrity Program
Becomes 11th State to sign on to AVID

Virginia has officially joined the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID), becoming the tenth State to participate in the voter file maintenance initiative spearheaded by Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both States.
AVID, launched by Secretary Allen in 2023, enhances the accuracy of voter rolls by identifying and removing duplicate registrations across State lines. The system has already facilitated the removal of nearly 40,000 ineligible voters from Alabama's rolls, according to Allen’s office.
"Alabama is extremely pleased to partner with Virginia and work to create cleaner and more accurate voter files for both of our states," Allen said. "This MOU officially brings Virginia on board with AVID, allowing both states to have cleaner voter rolls, which are the foundation of election security."
The addition of Virginia follows Alabama's previous agreements with Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Texas, Ohio and neighboring States Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi and Georgia. These partnerships enable States to share voter registration data securely, ensuring that individuals registered in multiple states are identified and addressed appropriately.
In May, Governor Kay Ivey signed SB142, codifying the use of AVID as Alabama's primary voter file maintenance system. SB142 replaced the previous ERIC system, which had been championed by previous Secretary of State John Merrill.
Secretary Allen expressed gratitude to his team and the Virginia Department of Elections for their collaborative efforts in executing the MOU. The full agreement can be viewed HERE.
Wes Allen has served as Alabama's Secretary of State since 2023, and could seek a second term in that office. However, in February, he announced that he would be running for Lieutenant Governor instead of returning for a second term as Secretary of State.
