John Wahl will be formally announcing his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama on Tuesday, January 27 at Alabama Republican Party Headquarters in Hoover. The formal announcement is scheduled for 12:00 noon.

Wahl qualified for the race online just before the end of the qualifying period on Friday. At that same time, he stepped down from the Chairmanship of ALGOP, which elevated Vice Chair Joan Reynolds to the position of Chair.

Wahl’s decision to run came after President Trump endorsed him in the race last Thursday evening.

Wahl responded to the endorsement by saying:

“I am deeply honored and grateful for President Trump’s endorsement and his confidence in my leadership. His support means a great deal to me and to the countless Alabamians who believe in conservative values, strong leadership, and putting America First.
Over the past several years, I’ve worked every day to strengthen our party, defend election integrity, and stand unapologetically for conservative principles. My decision comes with much prayer and careful consideration about how I can best continue to serve the people of Alabama.
Alabama is a special place, and I believe our best days are still ahead if we continue to lead with courage, common sense, and a commitment to the people we serve.”

At Tuesday’s announcement, Wahl is expected to speak to the endorsement as well as discussing his campaign and his vision for Alabama.

At press time, Wahl had changed the name of his official Facebook page to “John Wahl for Lieutenant Governor” but no web page had been activated.
