Proverbs 20:24 says, “Man’s steps are ordered by the Lord. How then can man understand his own way?”  And looking back, I can tell you, I never could’ve imagined the path God had planned for my life.

Ten years ago next week — August 21st, 2015 — I stood on a stage in Mobile, Alabama, as the first elected official in the nation to endorse Donald J. Trump for President. I didn’t wait for polls or permission — I saw a leader who loved this country, and I got on board. We’ve been on the Trump train since before the train left the station.

I’m writing this to tell you that I’m not done fighting. With my family by my side, last week I announced my candidacy to be the next United States Senator from the great state of Alabama.

We recently marked one year since the assassination attempt on President Trump’s life. And I believe what he said afterward — that God spared him for this very hour to help save this nation.

That moment wasn’t lost on me. As Heather and I prayed and considered this Senate run, it wasn’t an easy decision. We love the First Congressional District and we have poured our hearts into serving south Alabama for the past few years in Congress.

But the more I prayed, the more I felt the Lord ordering our steps.

I’ve always been a Republican. I remember voting for George H.W. Bush one of the first times I could vote. And in 2010, when Alabama saw its first Republican majority since Reconstruction, I had the honor of serving in the State Legislature.

Back then, I was one of the most conservative members in Montgomery. And I didn’t just talk, I got results. I passed a number of bills for our veterans during those eight years. I served as Vice Chair of Small Business and Commerce, and we brought Airbus, Austal, Remington, and Polaris to our state and helped supercharge Alabama’s booming auto industry.

You don’t have to wonder what I’ll do in the Senate - just look at what I’ve already done.  I’ve been rated one of the most conservative, most effective voices in the House. I fought Joe Biden’s lawless Justice Department on the House Judiciary Committee. And through it all, I’ve never once wavered in my loyalty to the people of Alabama or to President Trump.

But the fight isn’t over. The Left hasn’t packed it in. The media hasn’t changed. The liberal D.C. elites are still trying to take away your voice, your values, and your freedoms.

We need true conservative fighters in the Senate to confirm Trump’s nominees, reduce government spending and protect American families.

We need to deport illegal immigrants, make English the official language of the United States, and ensure that Democrats can never open the border again.

We need to continue to build our manufacturing capacity in Alabama. For too long, the economy has been rigged to benefit elites in California and New York. I’ll work with President Trump to build it around working families here in Alabama.

We need to close the gushers of waste and fraud that flow from DC to foreign nations and the enemies of this country. We are spending like drunken monkeys underneath a mountain of debt our children will not be able to afford. It’s time to take back control of our wallet.

We need to stand for the Christian values that made this country great and free, fighting tooth and nail against the woke indoctrination from Marxists in academia and deep-state bureaucrats in DC.

I’m not apologizing and I’m not backing down.  That’s the kind of Senator I’ll be.

American greatness is real. It’s worth defending. And I believe it lives in the people of this state more than any other.

So here’s my promise:  I’m going to earn your vote. I’m going to be a voice for the people of Alabama. I am going to stand with President Trump. I have taken the tough votes in the House – I will continue to take them and represent the values of our great state in the Senate.

This campaign isn’t about me. It’s about you – your family, your values, your freedoms. I’ll see you on the campaign trail.
