Why Medical Freedom Matters

“Americans must have the right to refuse or choose medical treatments or vaccines”—Guest Opinion by Terri LaPoint

Guest Opinion by Terri LaPoint, Candidate for Congress in Alabama’s 3rd District

The last few years have brought the vital need for Medical Freedom for Americans into sharp focus. Long before I became involved in politics, I have been an advocate for health freedom, something sorely lacking in the “land of the free and the home of the brave.” Americans must have the right to refuse or choose medical treatments or vaccines. No one should lose their job or career because of refusal of a shot, and no parent should lose their child to Child Protective Services/DHR because they make a medical decision for their child. Yet it happens every day. I have spent the last decade exposing such governmental overreach and fighting for legislative changes.

Recently the Trump Administration made a move through MAHA that is applauded by parental rights and medical freedom lovers, while being blasted by many in the mainstream media and Big Pharma. Under the leadership of RFK Jr., the CDC has reduced the number of routine recommended childhood vaccines. See Fact Sheet: CDC Childhood Immunization Recommendations | HHS.gov This follows the removal in December of the Hepatitis B vaccine from the recommended newborn shots.

“Anti-Vaxxers” or Informed Choice?

Media has pitched this as a battle between “anti-vaxxers” and “science deniers” verses the “experts” and scientists who know best. But this goes so much deeper. This is really about medical freedom and the right of people to make informed choices about medical decisions.

After the Holocaust, the Nuremburg code was enacted globally to ensure that no person would be compelled to be part of a medical experiment or research study without informed consent or the ability to refuse. That code has been violated in spades – here in America, where we are supposed to be free.

The Covid shot brought this reality to light in ways no other vaccine had before. For the first time, many Americans questioned what we were being told about vaccines. On the other hand, there have been many parents challenging the pre-approved narrative for years – parents who used to believe that the CDC recommended routine childhood vaccines were safe and effective. That is, until their child was injured by vaccines. These parents, most of whom used to believe unquestionably in vaccines, became labeled as “anti-vaxxers” when they started asking questions – the questions that should have been asked all along by the scientists and doctors. America fell into a trap of everyone assuming the studies and adequate research had been done by someone else, only it hadn’t.

Safe and Effective?

In 1986 the federal government made the decision to remove liability for the manufacturers of the vaccines that were the routinely recommended childhood vaccines by the CDC. At the time of this decision, a requirement was placed upon the federally-funded CDC to conduct safety studies of these routine vaccines. These were not done. Sure, there were short-term studies, but not long-term, and the vaccines were compared to other vaccines with similar ingredients. There were no true placebo studies.

For decades more and more vaccines were added to the schedule, with the expectation by Congress, doctors, and parents that they would only have been added if they were safe and effective. Surely they had been adequately tested. But they were not.

Much information has been exposed recently about how much has been kept from the American public. The most logical study – comparing vaccinated against non-vaccinated – was not conducted at all until recently. When the results did not fit the narrative we’ve all been told, the study was buried. I attended an important Senate subcommittee hearing in Washington DC regarding the study on September 9 of last year. The study confirmed what many parents have been saying for years. Vaccines are not as safe as we have been told, and children are, in fact, being harmed.

Before the reduction of CDC routine recommended shots on January 5, 2026, children who were vaccinated according to the recommended schedule received a whopping total of 72 vaccines during childhood. Yet America’s children have more chronic illness than ever before. The numbers keep going up.

Also increasing are the number of parents fighting for the right to informed consent (or refusal) and medical freedom to make decisions for their children. This increase isn’t happening because of google searches or social media; it is happening because parents are seeing with their own eyes what the experts refuse to admit: children are being injured.

Medical Kidnapping

I spent years investigating and reporting on medical kidnapping stories – cases where children were taken by Child Protective Services from innocent, loving families for medical kinds of reasons. It was uncanny to me how many parents were accused of abuse by a Child Abuse Pediatrician after going to the ER or calling 911 for a child not breathing or with a mysterious bump or symptoms within 24 to 48 hours after being vaccinated. A Texas mother was accused of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy when her infant reacted to a Gardasil shot accidentally given to her that was meant for her 13-year-old brother. (See story here.)

The very first viral article I wrote was in 2014 about a couple whose birth I attended as a labor doula in Birmingham, Alabama. When they refused the Hepatitis B shot for their hours-old newborn, the hospital threatened to call DHR on them and have their baby taken. I called it “vaccine blackmail,” because the parents were literally blackmailed into giving consent, under duress, for the shot. They knew the risks and were frightened for their child. As of last month, the CDC no longer includes the Hep B vaccine on the routinely recommended newborn schedule – a shot for a disease spread by dirty needles and sexual contact.

Parents have been begging for someone to hear their voices. America has an army of Mama Bears and Papa Bears fighting for their children. Their numbers have been steadily growing. They have witnessed firsthand the decline, illness, or even death, of normal, healthy babies and children who were meeting every milestone, yet everything changed within hours of routine vaccines. They didn’t imagine it. They have the video and medical evidence to prove it. Yet they were ignored, vilified, and demonized for asking questions and demanding answers.

Some of them have their children unjustly seized by Child Protective Services and placed into foster care. Parents have discovered that the CDC routine vaccination schedule has been weaponized against them. Out of their battle cries, the MAHA movement has arisen. They are listening and making changes.

Choice Remains – Liability Restored

For the parents who want to vaccinate, that choice is still available. This change to the CDC schedule will not take that decision away. Insurance will still pay for the shots.

One thing that will change is that the manufacturers of the shots that were removed from the schedule will no longer be shielded from legal liability. For the first time since 1986, the companies making the vaccines will be able to be sued if there is harm – just like every other medication in America. The restoration of liability will hopefully lead to safer products for everyone.

Many families of medically kidnapped and vaccine-injured children have contacted me over the years to tell their heartbreaking stories. To these parents, I say: I hear you. I am fighting for you. And I will never stop.

This is about medical freedom and informed choice – the right of parents, not the government, to make decisions as to what they decide is best for their children. As a concerned citizen, I wrote the first resolution in the state of Alabama in support of the Parental Rights bill which says parents have the fundamental right to direct the care, upbringing, and education of their children. It is now state law. As a Congresswoman for Alabama’s US District 3, I will continue to fight for families and medical freedom on a federal level.
