The widow of a well-regarded former District 4 Council Member urged voters to support Brian Gunn.

Annie Ruth Broughton Gunn, wife of the late Aldrich Gunn—who served District 4 with distinction for many years—endorsed Brian Gunn as a leader poised to carry on her husband’s legacy.

“I’m supporting Brian Gunn — please join me,” Mrs. Gunn said. “Let him win this election for all of us.”

Her endorsement brings deep emotional resonance to a growing coalition backing Gunn’s campaign. Supporters now include labor unions, business leaders, youth groups, and national progressive organizations. The Birmingham Association of Realtors is the latest to voice support. Other endorsements include:

  • Central Alabama Labor Federation, AFL-CIO
  • International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 136
  • Communications Workers of America, Local 3902
  • Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction
  • Progressive Change Campaign Committee (national PAC)
  • Alabama College Democrats
  • Alabama Young Democrats
  • Birmingham Young Democrats
  • For the Future Victory Fund
  • Alabama Cannabis Coalition

Brian Gunn expressed gratitude for Mrs. Gunn’s support. “To have the support of Mrs. Gunn is an incredible honor,” he said. “She represents a legacy of leadership in District 4, and I’m committed to continuing that tradition by showing up, listening, and delivering for our neighborhoods.”

Gunn’s platform focuses on community-led improvements: boosting public safety via neighborhood investment, expanding mental health services, supporting youth programs, strengthening code enforcement, and promoting revitalization shaped by local input.

He emphasized the campaign’s near-universal appeal. “This campaign is about more than politics, it’s about people,” he said. “From labor to business to community elders, folks are coming together because they’re ready for real change. We deserve a councilmember who will work as hard as the people of this district do every day.”

Election Day is Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Gunn is facing incumbent J.T Moore, Joseph Holt and Darryl Williams in the District 4 race.
