Young Republicans Launch Alabama Steel Challenge
Shelby and St. Clair County Young Republicans team up for Alabama’s only GOP-themed shooting event, supporting community and 2nd Amendment causes
The St. Clair and Shelby County Young Republicans are teaming up for a first-of-its-kind “Steel Challenge,” blending friendly competition with community spirit to promote conservative values and Second Amendment rights.
The event, organized by two of Alabama’s most active Young Republican clubs, will feature a simplified shooting competition designed for both new and experienced participants. “Drawing from the experience of SCCYR Chairman Aaron Lonnergan in competitive shooting, this is a form of competition where participants engage five different arrangements of five steel targets across four rounds,” organizers explained. “Each shooter’s average time determines the top score.”
The challenge is meant to be approachable for amateur competitors, with easy-to-understand rules and categories. Spectators are also welcome to attend and cheer on participants while supporting local Young Republican efforts.
What makes the event unique, according to organizers, is that it’s the only Republican-centered shooting competition of its kind in Alabama—and every dollar raised will go directly back into Shelby and St. Clair County communities to promote Republican causes and protect the right to bear arms.
The event has drawn support from several well-known community and national sponsors, including 94.1 FM, BamaCarry, and Palmetto State Armory. More than $600 in giveaways will be distributed during the competition, adding an extra level of excitement to the day.
“This is a great opportunity to meet new friends, test your skills, and support local Republican leadership,” the clubs said in a statement.
