7 Shot, 1 Killed in Late-Night West Birmingham Shooting
Seven people shot, one killed in late-night Birmingham violence as police continue investigation into West End-area gunfire at “some kind of gathering”
Birmingham police are investigating a violent late-night shooting that left one person dead and six others injured Thursday night, marking another mass shooting incident in the city as officials continue to confront ongoing gun violence.
According to WBRC 6 News, officers responded to reports of gunfire at the 100 block of Holley Avenue in West Birmingham, where they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Seven people were struck in total. One person died at the scene, while the remaining six were transported for medical care. None of the persons shot were juveniles. Authorities have not yet released the names or conditions of those involved, and no arrests have been announced as of Friday morning.
Police say the investigation is active and ongoing, with detectives working to determine what led up to the shooting and whether multiple suspects were involved. Initial investigations have reportedly revealed that there was “some sort of gathering” ongoing when the gunfire erupted.

The incident adds to a continuing pattern of violent crime in Birmingham, which has seen repeated mass shootings in recent years. One of the most severe occurred in September 2024 in the Five Points South entertainment district, where a mass shooting left four people dead and 17 others injured during a late-night gathering. Law enforcement described that attack as a targeted shooting that quickly escalated into chaos.
Birmingham also recorded 161 homicides in 2024, according to city homicide tracking data compiled from public records and local reporting databases, marking one of the higher recent annual totals for the city. Crime analysts note that while homicide totals fluctuate year to year, the city continues to rank among higher-rate urban areas for violent crime when measured per capita, a trend that has drawn sustained public safety attention.
Earlier incidents in 2026 have also underscored the issue, including multiple shootings across residential neighborhoods and commercial corridors, many of which involved more than one victim and occurred in rapid succession.
Police have not said whether Thursday night’s shooting is connected to any other recent incidents.
The Birmingham Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains ongoing.
