Walker County District Attorney Bill Adair announced Thursday that he is endorsing Katherine Robertson in Alabama’s June 16 Republican runoff for Attorney General, pointing to her work on parole reform and support for crime victims as key reasons for his support.

Adair said Robertson has played a major role in efforts to keep the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles independent and focused on public safety.

“I have had the privilege of working with Katherine Robertson behind the scenes over the last few years and am pleased to offer her my endorsement for Attorney general,” Adair said in a statement.

“As both a District Attorney and a son who lost my own father to violent crime, what stands out to me is her relentless fight to keep our Parole Board independent and free from outside influence.

“She fought hard in 2019 for significant reforms to the board that have made our state safer, but she didn’t stop there. Every year since, she has been at the tip of the spear in every fight regarding the board’s autonomy and its mission — to protect public safety.

“In doing so, she has performed a great service to Alabama’s crime victims, for which we owe her a debt of gratitude. I encourage all Alabamians to join me in supporting Katherine Robertson for Attorney general on June 16th.”

Adair was first elected District Attorney in Walker County in 2010 after serving 14 years as Chief Deputy District Attorney. He has prosecuted multiple capital murder cases during his career.

His path into law began after his father was murdered in Lawrence County in 1981 by a former coworker, a tragedy Adair has often cited as shaping his commitment to public safety and crime victims.

The endorsement adds to Robertson’s growing support among prosecutors and law enforcement officials across Alabama ahead of the Republican runoff election.

A first-time candidate for elected office, Robertson has built a broad coalition of support during the campaign. Robertson currently serves as Chief Counsel to Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and entered the race last year with Marshall’s endorsement.
