Three Alabama lawmakers have publicly affirmed their support for families by signing the Moms for Liberty Elected Officials Pledge. The signing comes during Parental Rights Month, which highlights the essential role parents play in shaping their children's lives. The Pledge underscores growing efforts across the country to assert parental control in education, healthcare, and moral upbringing.

State Sen. Arthur Orr was the first in Alabama to sign the pledge, soon joined by Rep. Parker Moore and Rep. Ernie Yarbrough. Their decision sends a clear message to parents: their voices matter, and their rights will be defended.

Parental Rights Month, observed each June, brings attention to the rights of parents as the primary decision-makers in their children's lives. Parents Rights Month promotes legislative initiatives, raises awareness, and encourages elected officials to stand up against government overreach. The month-long observance has gained national momentum as concerns grow over school transparency, ideology in the classroom, and medical decisions being made without parental consent.

Rep. Yarbrough offered a strong statement of support for the initiative:

“One of the hallmarks of America is the defense of the family as defined in the Holy Bible… The family is the most basic unit where faith, morality, respect, and character are formed. I’m proud to stand with Moms For Liberty and unapologetically declare that in Alabama we will defend the God‑ordained institution of the family and parental rights in the raising, guiding, and nurturing of Alabama’s children.”

The pledge is not a political endorsement but a values-based commitment. By signing it, lawmakers pledge to promote school transparency, resist government interference, and safeguard the rights of parents to guide their children’s education and upbringing.

Emily Jones, Chapter Chair of Moms for Liberty in Madison County, praised the decision:

“These three men are stepping forward to say what many parents have been praying for: that elected officials will defend the rights of families, not bypass them. This is smart policy and smart politics.”

Moms for Liberty, a national nonprofit advocacy group, has been active in organizing parents to push for greater say in education and family-related policy. The organization is encouraging both elected officials and parents to take the pledge through its website.
