Alabama Cannabis Coalition Stands on the Front Lines Opposing Federal Hemp Ban

Montgomery, Alabama - The Alabama Cannabis Coalition (ACC) is sounding the alarm following congressional action that threatens to dismantle the American hemp industry and devastate farmers, businesses, and consumers nationwide.
On Wednesday, November 12th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a Continuing Resolution (CR) to reopen the federal government. Quietly embedded within the package was agricultural appropriations language that would redefine hemp to a near-unachievable limit of 0.3% total THC, including Delta-9 THC, THCA, and all cannabinoids considered "intoxicating."
This shift would effectively render nearly every hemp plant in the United States non-compliant, eliminating over 95% of legal hemp products currently grown or sold and destabilizing a $24 billion industry. The bill includes a
385-day moratorium before enforoement, but the intent is clear: this is a federal hemp ban.
For Alabama, the consequences are even more severe. The recently passed state law, HB445, includes a provision stating that any new federal regulation will supersede state law. Because this proposed federal definition is even more restrictive, it would fully eliminate legal access to hemp-derived products for Alabama's consumers-especially patients and veterans with no access to medical cannabis.
The Alabama Cannabis Coalition will not stand by while Congress threatens farmers, businesses, and the safe access that Alabamians depend on,* said ACC leadership. The ACC will be joining a united national front of advocates, farmers, industry groups, and consumers to pressure Congress to reverse this harmful language. The coalition calls for sensible, science-based regulations that ensure public safety while preserving the livelihoods of American farmers and small businesses.
