ALGOP Encourages Families to Apply for CHOOSE Act ESAs
Applications for Renewing Families open TODAY, December 15

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) is reminding families that applications for the CHOOSE Act are now open for the 2026–2027 school year. The program provides Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) to help families pay for tuition, tutoring, educational therapies, and other approved education expenses.
“Two years ago, the CHOOSE Act put parents back in the driver’s seat when it comes to their children’s education," said ALGOP Chairman John Wahl. "The Alabama Republican Party has long championed school choice, and we are proud of the leadership of Governor Kay Ivey and our Republican-led Legislature in making this program a reality for families across Alabama. This program ensures that a child’s future isn’t determined by the zip code they live in and gives parents real options.”
“Alabama families deserve the freedom to choose the education that fits their children best,” Wahl added. “The CHOOSE Act is a victory for parents, children, and communities across our state.”
Key dates for the 2026–2027 school year:
- Renewing Families: December 15, 2025
- New Families: January 2, 2026
- Application Deadline: March 31, 2026
- Award Notifications: April 15, 2026
Funding includes $7,000 per student in participating schools and $2,000 per student in home education programs (capped at $4,000 per family). Priority is given to students with special needs, siblings of current participants, children of active-duty military, and students attending priority schools. Beginning in 2027–2028, the program will be open to all families regardless of income.
“Now is the time for families to take advantage of this opportunity,” Wahl continued. “We encourage parents to apply and share this program so more students across Alabama can benefit from school choice.”
