Republican women from across Autauga County gathered Tuesday in Prattville to formally launch the new Autauga County Republican Women organization, marking the start of what organizers say will be a long-term effort to grow conservative activism and civic engagement in the county.

The group held its inaugural luncheon May 5 at Ann’s Back in the Day Cafe, where former Alabama State Representative Perry Hooper Jr. delivered the keynote address.

Hooper, who served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1984 until 2003 and remains active in Republican politics across the State, told attendees that organized women voters continue to play a major role in Alabama elections.

“When women organize, politicians listen,” Hooper said. “Organized Republican women have repeatedly proven decisive in Alabama races at every level — from city council seats to the Governor’s office.”

The luncheon drew women from Prattville, Autauga County, and nearby communities as the organization officially elected its founding officers.

Those officers include:

  • President — Suzzelle Josey
  • Vice President — Elaine Wilkes
  • Secretary — Stephanie Irvine
  • Treasurer — Sandra Champion

Founding President Suzzelle Josey said the organization plans to focus on supporting conservative candidates, increasing local political involvement, and building connections among Republican women in the county.

“This is just the beginning,” Josey said. “There is real energy behind this group, and we are excited about what these women can accomplish together for Autauga County and for Alabama.”

According to organizers, the club will hold regular monthly meetings and is currently accepting new members who support conservative values and civic participation.

The launch comes during a busy political season in Alabama as Republican organizations across the State prepare for the 2026 election cycle. Republican primary elections in Alabama are scheduled for May 19.

The new organization said membership information and future meeting details will be posted through its Facebook page.
