Birmingham, AL — The Birmingham Municipal Court will hold “Court Amnesty Month” from June 1 through June 30, 2026, giving eligible individuals the opportunity to resolve outstanding Failure to Appear warrants and related court obligations without the threat of immediate arrest. Led by Presiding Judge LaResha Cade-Spearman, the initiative aims to help residents address unresolved municipal court matters while reducing the backlog of outstanding warrants.
“This initiative is about providing people with a meaningful opportunity to address outstanding court matters and move forward,” said Judge Cade-Spearman. “Court Amnesty Month supports fairness, accountability, and judicial efficiency while helping residentsreconnect with the court system in a constructive way.”
During Amnesty Month, eligible individuals may visit Birmingham Municipal Court between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to take steps toward resolving their cases. Participants must present a valid ID.

The amnesty program applies to individuals with outstanding Failure to Appear warrants related to:
- Failure to appear in court on original traffic citations or misdemeanor charges
- Failure to complete a court-ordered program or probation
- Failure to comply with a payment plan or sentencing order
- Outstanding unpaid fines, court costs, or restitution
Eligible participants may have their Failure to Appear warrants recalled by:
- Paying original fines and court costs in full
- Establishing or reinstating a payment plan
- Re-establishing compliance with a court-ordered program or probation requirements
As part of the initiative, all Failure to Appear fees associated with qualifying warrants will be stayed or remitted for individuals who appear and take steps to resolve their original charges. The Court may also exercise discretion to continue cases and provide additional time for fines and costs to be paid.
Individuals with outstanding parking tickets may resolve those citations online at www.birminghamal.gov/parksmart. Parking fees may also be paid at the court.
Individuals charged with or convicted of crimes of violence, including domestic violence offenses, Driving Under the Influence, or code and zoning violations, are not eligible for the amnesty program.
The program was established through Administrative Order No. 2026-001, which cites the Court’s commitment to judicial economy, reducing outstanding warrant backlogs, and encouraging the final disposition of pending municipal ordinance and traffic violations.
