The Christian Coalition of Alabama (CCA) has announced its recommendation of former Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl in the June 16 runoff election.

The endorsement, released Thursday, comes as Wahl and Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen make their final push for Republican voters. The two advanced to the runoff after finishing first and second, respectively, in the May 19 primary.

In a statement, Christian Coalition of Alabama President Dr. Randy Brinson said the organization met with both candidates during the campaign and found each to be aligned with conservative priorities.

“Both candidates share a conservative vision for our State,” Brinson said. “For us, the decision came down to character and judgment — and on that measure, John Wahl stands apart.”

The organization pointed to Wahl’s record as Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, a position he held from 2021 until stepping down earlier this year to seek Statewide office. During his tenure, Wahl also served as a Vice Chairman of the Republican National Committee and was among the youngest State Party Chairmen in the nation.

The Coalition credited Wahl with helping build conservative grassroots networks across Alabama and noted that he received President Donald Trump’s endorsement in the Lieutenant Governor race.

Brinson said Wahl sought guidance from conservative and evangelical leaders before entering the race.

“It was immediately obvious that his desire to serve the people of Alabama was greater than any personal ambition,” Brinson said. “He has run a positive campaign, made his case on his values and his vision, and done it without dark money or special-interest PAC money.”

The coalition also raised concerns about campaign finance issues tied to Wahl’s opponent. In its statement, CCA referenced previous concerns voiced by a coalition of conservative organizations, including Eagle Forum of Alabama, Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP), and the Alabama Policy Institute, regarding campaign contributions they have linked to gambling interests and reporting practices involving the American Conservative Fund.

CCA said calls to return those contributions and address reporting questions have not been answered.

Brinson contrasted Wahl’s campaign approach with what he described as outside political influence.

“John Wahl has remained positive throughout this race, articulating his values and his vision for Alabama even in the face of attacks,” Brinson said. “He has not taken dark money or PAC money, and he has not paid homage to those who want to control Montgomery instead of answering to the people of Alabama.”

The Christian Coalition concluded its statement by urging Republicans to support Wahl in Tuesday’s runoff election.

“The Christian Coalition of Alabama proudly joins President Trump and thousands of Alabamians in recommending John Wahl in the Republican primary runoff on June 16.”

Wahl entered the Lieutenant Governor’s race earlier this year with Trump’s endorsement and finished first in the Republican primary field, setting up a runoff with Allen.
