Georgia vs Alabama Rematch in SEC Championship
Georgia Aims to Break Alabama’s Hold in SEC Title Game on ABC at 3:00 PM
No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs (11-1) and No. 10 Alabama Crimson Tide (10-2) will meet Saturday afternoon in the Southeastern Conference Championship with more than just a trophy on the line.
Alabama is playing for its first SEC title under coach Kalen DeBoer, and the Crimson Tide’s placement in the College Football Playoff rankings gives them motivation to protect a likely playoff spot. Georgia wants to secure a first-round bye in the CFP with a strong title game performance.
Alabama has had the Bulldogs’ number in recent meetings. Georgia fell 24-21 at home on Sept. 27 and hasn’t beaten the Crimson Tide since the 2021 national championship, a 33-18 win that brought Georgia its first title in 41 years. A 2023 SEC championship game loss is also part of the recent pattern.
Georgia enters the title game riding an eight-game win streak after closing the regular season with a victory over Georgia Tech. That win pushed the Bulldogs’ record to 50-5 over the past four seasons, a stretch that includes two SEC championships and the 2022 national title.
Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton said the rivalry’s weight isn’t lost on the team.
“Everybody knows the history of Georgia-Alabama. I mean, it’s there.”
Georgia coach Kirby Smart acknowledged that his 2025 seniors have dominated many rivals but hinted there’s unfinished business.
Crimson Tide linebacker Deontae Lawson stressed Alabama’s focus going into the matchup.
“We’re not even worried about having bragging rights or anything,” Lawson said. “We just know this is another steppingstone on our way to get to where we want to go. That’s really our main focus.”
The series between these two programs has deep roots and heavy stakes. Alabama holds a significant edge in the all-time rivalry, and recent history has tilted in its favor.
